At 11:30am, on Friday, August 29, 2008, the Green Lake County Sheriff's 911 Center received a call concerning a missing fisherman on Little Green Lake. Reported was that a man was missing in the water having fallen out of a boat. Little Green Lake is located in Southern Green Lake County just North of the City of Markesan.
With emergency response units paged, and law enforcement responding, the Markesan Police Department arrived and was assited by citizens in locating the incident on the lake. Markesan Fire and Rescue located the missing male party in about 8 feet of water at 12:03pm. The male party was taken by Markesan Ambulance to Ripon Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
The victim in this incident is a 41 year old male from the state of Illinois. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notice to family.
Responding units to the incident included the Markesan Police Department, Markesan Fire/Rescue, Markesan Ambulance, Green Lake County Sheriff's Office, Princeton Fire/Rescue, the Wisconsin DNR, and Green Lake County Coroners Office.
This incident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin DNR, Green Lake County Sheriff's Office, and Green Lake County Coroners Office. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
