On 01-04-12 an autopsy revealed that Moldenhauer died from inhalation of smoke from the structure fire, causing an evaluated carbon monoxide level in his system. This case will be referred to the Green Lake County District Attorney's office for review. The Berlin Police Department is not pursuing any criminal charges in this matter.
On Monday, January 2nd, 2012 at approximately 4:41pm the Berlin Fire and Police Departments responded to a residential fire call at 453 E. Huron St. in the City of Berlin. Upon arriving on-scene, heavy smoke and flames were observed coming from the structure.
Shortly after arriving on-scene, firefighters recovered the body of a 53 year old Berlin man inside of the residence. Firefighters and EMS personnel attempted CPR to revive the man who was identified as Nicholas S. Moldenhauer. Moldenhauer was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Green Lake Co. Coroners Office. No other subjects were in the residence at the time.
The location of the fire source was identified as coming from the kitchen area of the residence.
The investigation is still on-going by the Berlin Police and Fire Departments, along with the Green Lake Co. Coroners Office.
Departments assisting at the scene were the City of Green Lake and Village of PoySippiFire Departments, Berlin Emergency Management, and the Green Lake Co. Sheriffs Department.
