Address: Horner Road
Date of Release: 11/04/11 Release #: 1
On 11/03/11, Green Lake County Sheriff's Office received several 911 calls reporting a vehicle that had driven off the Horner Road boat landing, into the waters of Big Green Lake, at a high rate of speed. Further reports indicated that a subject was in the water about 50 yards from shore saying she could not swim. The subject was given instructions by a person at the landing on how to float and stay above water. The subject continued to flounder in the water as a City of Green Lake Police officer arrived. The officer was able to locate a duck skiff and paddle out to the victim, retrieve her from under the water surface, and get her to shore, where a Green Lake County Sheriff's Deputy and other persons were able to get her onto the landing. She was transported to Berlin Memorial Hospital for treatment, where she will make full recovery. The vehicle was removed by a tow truck with the assistance of divers from Princeton. The Green Lake County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Green Lake Police Department, Markesan Fire and Water Rescue, Markesan Ambulance, Markesan Emergency Government, Princeton Fire Department Ice/Water Rescue, Ripon Guardian Ambulance, and other citizens who assisted, including former Princeton Fire Department cold water divers. Subjects name is withheld, and she was the only occupant of the vehicle.
