Berlin Police Department, Fatal Crash Press Release

On March 27th, 2011 (Sunday), at 6:58am, the Berlin Police Department responded to a single vehicle rollover crash located on Hwy. 49 at the south city limits.  The time of the crash is not known exactly, but the vehicle and lone occupant were located by a passing motorist.  Green Lake Co. Sheriff’s Deputies assisted with investigation of the crash.


Upon arrival, officers observed that the vehicle was partially underwater, and required Berlin Fire Department Rescue Unit Personnel to enter the vehicle to extract the lone occupant.  The occupant was identified as James Evers, 43 yrs. from Omro WI.  Evers was unconscious and not breathing when extracted from the vehicle.


Evers was then transported to the Berlin Memorial Hospital, by Berlin EMS Ambulance.  Evers was pronounced deceased at Berlin Memorial Hospital.  Winnebago Sheriffs Dept. assisted with family notification.


The vehicle being driven by Evers was northbound on STH 49 when it traveled onto the gravel shoulder of STH 49 n/b, and appeared to have over compensated traveling across both lanes of STH 49.  The vehicle continued off road to the west of STH 49 where it rolled over into a water filled ditch where it came to rest on its roof.


The case remains under investigation pending further information.
