On Monday, February 14th, 2011, 7:17am, the City of Berlin Police responded to a report of a tire visible in the Fox River. The location of the incident was on Water St., North of the Broadway St. bridge, in the City of Berlin. Berlin Police and the Sheriff's Office discovered that a 4 wheel ATV had broken through the ice. Information obtained revealed that the ATV had most likely gone through the ice the evening prior and that a male party had been given a ride south from the scene. The ATV was left over night without notice to authorities.
As a cautionary measure, and while the owner was sought and witnesses developed, the Princeton Water Rescue Team removed the ATV from a 6 foot deep area of the Fox River. The ATV was a 2002 Honda and was completely submerged, except for two tires. While the unit was being removed the owner, a Princeton adult, appeared at the scene to report the incident.
All citizens were accounted for, no citizens or recovery personnel were injured as a result of this incident. This incident remains under investigation with no criminal charges expected.
