Berlin, Wisconsin (December 22, 2010)-- The Berlin Police Department reports that 46-year Emil (Craig) Burmeister of N8720 Landing Road, Berlin, Wisconsin was given a 30 year sentence today in Green Lake County Circuit Court after being convicted of Felony Possession with Intent to Deliver of over one half of a kilogram gram of cocaine related to his arrest by local and state police officers on Sunday August 9, 2009. Judge Brian A. Pfitzinger ordered that Burmeister serve the first 15 years of his sentence in the Wisconsin State Prison System followed by 15 years of extended supervision. If Burmeister’s extended supervision is revoked, he would be required to serve an additional 15 years of confinement beyond his first 15 years in the Wisconsin State Prison System.
Burmeister also was convicted of separate charges of possession of cocaine and three counts of delivery of cocaine from incidents dating back to the Spring of 2009. On those convictions, Judge Pfitzinger ordered Burmeister to serve 10 years of probation consecutive to his 30 year sentence.
Burmeister’s arrest and conviction was the result of a year-long investigation by narcotics investigators for the Berlin Police Department, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigations, the Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force, and narcotic officers from the State of Illinois.
During the investigation, narcotics officers uncovered cocaine trafficking that resulted in more than three dozen defendants being charged in Green Lake County Circuit Court. Working with investigators from the State of Illinois, local officers were able to determine that Burmeister would regularly travel to the Chicago, Illinois area to pick up large quantities of cocaine to ultimately distribute in the Berlin, Wisconsin area.
Judge Pfitzinger is a Dodge County Judge who was assigned to handle the Green Lake County matter. The case was prosecuted by Special Prosecutor Vincent Biskupic of Appleton, Wisconsin. Emil Burmeister was represented by Attorney William M. Lennon of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
